Just the Most Beautiful City
Venice is the most beautiful city in the world. You wont to convince me otherwise.
It oozes romance, to start with. The buildings lining the canals are not spoiled by unfortunate constructions of our century, so when you see a 400-year old painting of St. Mark's Square, only the clothes have changed. Magnificent.
The cardinal joy, in my opinion, is wandering the tiny backstreets that twist together like in my travel the spagetti served on their sidewalk bistros. We quickly gave up navigating with a map, and instead chose to "aim north" or "try to get over to the left "until we found what we searched. I think that's kind of what you have to do: just abandon yourself to the winding streets. Struggle too hard, and like quicksand you'll end up worse off that before.

St. Mark’s Basilica:
The most beautiful mosaics (like the one above) cover the ceilings and arches of St. Mark's Basilica. It's incredible to realize that the pieces are as tiny as in the detail, below.
These (three of the) four horses are from the second century. No big deal.
The famous Bridge of Sighs, so named because prisoners would sigh at their last glimpse of daylight as they walked from the courts (building on the left) to the prison where they were left to die (on the right.)
Murano, one of the islands in the Venice area, is famous for their exquisite glass work. But just in case you were confused ...
At the end of our second day, we enjoyed a night out near the Rialto Bridge. Before tasting the local wines and favorite cocktails, however, Lindsay and I had a good time playing with the time exposure on our cameras (below.) There isso much energy in this city!
